Discussions about the use of artificial intelligence in the school district will continue Thursday during the School Board meeting.
Superintendent Stu Moeckel said the board will hear feedback from the committee it created to research AI but will not take any action.
The board will also discuss a memorandum of understanding with the developer of the Shadow Ridge subdivision planned adjacent to the high school regarding stormwater management.
In other business, the board will look over the 2026-27 school year draft calendar and have a first read-through of the Kansas Association of School Boards’ new policy recommendations, which are updated twice a year. The board will potentially adopt the new recommendations at its January meeting, Moeckel said.
Executive sessions for personnel and a student concern are planned for the meeting. The executive session is required to protect the privacy of the student.
In the consent agenda, the board plans to approve multiple new hires, including Nathan Gomez as both the new assistant eighth grade boys basketball coach and the high school girls soccer assistant coach. Drew Steffen will be hired as the middle school boys basketball instructional coach.
The board also plans to accept the resignation of middle school football coach Lee Minton.
The middle and high school ROX programs will be highlighted during the meeting, too.
Before the meeting, the board will hold a reception to honor the service of board member Eric Votaw, who is stepping down when his term expires in 2026.
