The Eudora Times will close for the summer.

No news coverage will be provided from May 15 to Aug. 17, with the exception of state spring sports in late May. The newspaper will reopen when fall semester resumes at KU.

We announced last July that we needed to cut our full-time reporter position due to insufficient community financial support.

Much of what I said then remains the same nine months later. Like any other local business, we need financial support from the community.

How to donate to support us is listed at the end of every story we publish. A $50 donation is less than $1 per week to support coverage of sports, City Commission, School Board, business, senior citizens, feature stories, etc.

It costs $60,000 per year for us to operate with our team of part-time staff. It costs $120,000 to have a full-time reporter supported with part-time staff.

Local news needs support. Without it, we need to do another temporary closure.
