Updated Nov. 20: Massey said the Eudora Township Board of Trustees will reappoint Jankowski to the Library Board at a Dec. 2 meeting.
Original Story:
Library Board members all signaled interest in remaining on the board as the library continues its move to a new spot on Main Street.
Board members Amy Jankowski, Eric Magette and Kenny Massey all have terms that expire at the end of the year. All three said they desire to remain on the board as the library goes through its transition to a new building.
“There needs to be continuity on the board right now,” Magette. “I think with the purchase of this building, there’s just relationships and there’s knowledge with the current board through this process that I think if we’re able to keep this board, the same five people on this board, through this process, I think that’s probably a good thing.”
Massey said he emailed City Manager Zack Daniel about the process for reappointment for him and Magette. He said they received an email back that suggested Daniel would meet with the mayor this week to discuss multiple upcoming board appointments.
Massey said he was unsure if this meant the process for filling board spots would be a full commission process or not. Board members agreed they would like a clear process for any appointments to the board.
Daniel said he told the mayor both Magette and Massey wanted to remain on the board, but official appointments would not be made until the City Commission’s Dec. 8 meeting.
Jankowski is appointed via Eudora Township. Massey said they would reach out to the township about the process for her reappointment.
Library board members continued to discuss plans for the library’s new space on Main Street at their meeting Tuesday night.
The board unanimously approved purchase of the former Quilting Bits & Pieces store at 736 Main St. earlier this fall. The purchase ended an eight-year journey to find a new space.
Jankowski and Massey met with Kevin Markley from Mar Lan Construction to discuss next steps for developing the new building.
Jankowski said the plan is to get a new design proposal that would inform construction costs. Massey said he emailed Sean Zaudke with Multistudio, a Lawrence-based design firm, about starting the process for new designs.
Massey said he met with Ryan Schurle, of Schurle Signs, about possible signage for the space. The discussions included lighted signage for the front facade of the building or a sign that would hang inside the windows.
The building is officially in the possession of the Eudora Community Library. Massey said he has received all the paperwork to show ownership. He said the library has builder’s risk insurance for the upcoming renovations.
Board members also voted to pay $400 to have a tree outside the library pruned.
Library Director Carol Wohlford updated board members on the creation of a library record retention plan. Massey asked what software the library would use to store them electronically. Wohlford said she would look into different software options like Google Drive. They also discussed keeping a backup hard drive with files.
