Horses, goats, ducks, pigs and cows took over the elementary school Thursday.
Day on the Farm, which started four years ago, serves as a day for elementary kids to play games, meet farm animals and learn about plants.
First-grade teacher Jasmine Crame said the students love meeting the animals and learning more about them.
“Getting to see the animals and getting to touch them and interact with them and learn more about the animals are the kids’ favorite part of Day on the Farm,” Crame said.
Senior Kynlee Dressler, who was presenting the goats, said the animals are sourced from breeders in the surrounding areas and brought to the school for the event. Out of all the animals, students get the most excited for the cattle, she said.
One educational opportunity for students was the plant station, where students had bingo cards with different plants for them to find. Kylee Inskeep, another FFA member, was in charge of this station.
“I usually have to specify not to touch the plants, but for the most part, they’re very respectful,” Inskeep said. “They get excited to see if they can find everything.”

Inskeep has worked at Day on the Farm for two years now, and she said her favorite part is seeing all the kids get excited about seeing everything the event has to offer.
Kindergarten student Greyson Lorenzo said he was excited to play the games set up at the event. He said that even though he had just arrived, games like tug-of-war and bingo would be his favorite part, along with seeing the Highland cows.
The cows were presented by senior Peyton McCaig.
“I think it’s definitely fun to see a different breed of cattle rather than just, like, a black cow you’d see on the side of the road all the time,” McCaig said. “These aren’t as common around here, so it’s a cool experience to give to the kids to show them something different.”
