The next phase of construction for the Nottingham project is set to begin next week following approval during Monday night’s City Commission meeting.
The goal is to finish this construction, which will include street, sanitary, stormwater and waterline improvements, within about 90 days with a bid of about $325,000.
The city also heard from a brokerage firm and a property management company that will assist with the next phase of the development project.
Representatives from CBRE Property Management presented their vision for the city and the Nottingham Center.
“Some of the tools we’ve talked about bringing in as far as technology could be helpful,” said Melissa Gray, director of property management. “One of the things we use on the management side is what’s called a dimension study. It tracks your activity through a retail center.”
The dimension study tracks where one goes to shop and how long someone stays in a certain store, she said.
“I think it’s amazing what you’re able to do with the traffic patterns and [data] usage,” Mayor Tim Reazin said. “Our hope is that it’s going to bring retail offerings that will give us the best fit.”
CBRE will leverage mass mobile data to track user movement every hour of the day.
“[The study] aggregates that data over a period of time, and we use that pretty regularly to understand what sides of the retail experience are seeing less activation than others,” Gray said.
In its packet presented to the city, CBRE also outlined some recommendations for boosting retailer and customer interest.
These include a consistent schedule of activities, such as food trucks, a farmers market and Christmas tree sales, the creation of a promotions fund and social media marketing.
Reazin said discussion of the Nottingham development will continue at the next meeting.
