The Planning Commission reviewed the final plan for the Casey’s General Store as part of the Nottingham Center at its meeting Wednesday.
The outline for the store had been revised from the original plan, including revisions to the overall size of the site, the building height and exterior, and the store’s sign. The entire Casey’s property will occupy approximately 1.5 acres in the center.
Commissioner Jason Hoover voiced a preference for the outer appearance of the store as featured in the new plan, including the change from a hip roof to a flat roof.
“I’m a lot happier with this building than the one that was proposed before,” Hoover said. “To me, I think this is a lot more pleasing and will look a lot better on Church Street.”
Commissioner Grant Martin said he had been hesitant about increasing the height of the sign at first, but that he understands the need for its size in order to fully reflect the Casey’s brand and its gas pricing.
“I also think this revised plan really cleans things up,” Martin said. “I do like this more contemporary look. I think this is going to be a nice addition to the Nottingham Center.”
The city of Eudora has launched a Nottingham website, an extension of the city’s website that serves as a resource for all information related to the Nottingham Center. City Manager Barack Matite told commissioners the website will be added to as the project develops, including the addition of more tenants as they’re signed.
A pop-up alert leading to the Nottingham webpage is the first thing viewers see when they open the city’s website. Casey’s General Store is one of three merchants signed to the Nottingham Center so far, along with Wendy’s and High 5 Entertainment.
“We wanted it to be prominent so that people can see and get more information about this project,” Matite said. “It is the biggest project that we’ve ever undertaken as a community.”
The revised plan will go before the City Commission next week at Monday’s meeting, with recommendation of approval from the Planning Commission.
