Barbwire Barbecue is applying for a grant from the city as it prepares for renovations and a potential expansion.
City commissioners will discuss two applicants for the 2023 Eudora Downtown Grant Program during their meeting Monday night. The fund has $2,900 remaining from its original $15,000 budget.
In its application, Barbwire Barbecue listed projects that it plans to undertake to improve the business, including a hood system in the kitchen and parking lot improvements.
The restaurant also noted it wants to purchase nearby land for future expansion. Co-owner Jason Musick said they are looking into the potential of private event space that eventually becomes the regular dining room.
“What we’re trying to focus on is the family friendly atmosphere, which we’ve always strived to have here at Barbwire,” Musick said.
The business requested a $2,900 grant and would provide matching funds.
Another grant application seeks $7,500 to fix exterior issues, such as paint and gutter. This is the building that includes Eudora Eye Care and Farm Bureau Financial Services.
Other items on the agenda include a proclamation to recognize January 2023 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month and setting City Commission meeting dates for the year.
