More than 100 quilts decorate the United Methodist Church this weekend as the Eudora Quilt Show has opened once again.
The event put on by Eudora’s Quilt Guild is offered every two years and features quilts, baked goods and vendors.
Kim Rodman has been with the guild about five years and has an embroidered Halloween quilt on display.
“It’s all done on an embroidery machine. Each block is done separately and then are joined together, somewhat like a puzzle,” she said.
Debbie Coddington said her love of quilting developed when she was a little girl.
“We lived next door to a church where they had a lady’s quilting group once a week and in the summer times I would go over and pester them and they actually let me take a few stitches on their quilt,” she said. “They probably took them out later. That was my first exposure.”
There are 104 quilts on display this weekend, plus 20 quilts from the featured quilter. As long as a quilt hasn’t been shown in the Eudora Quilt Guild Show previously, it can be displayed.
Peggy Claggett said the Eudora Quilt Guild, previously known as the Eudora Quilting Bees, has about 35 members and has been around for over two decades. Members are eligible to enter quilts in the show.
“It’s not a judged show, so nobody critiques our work,” she said.
Rodman said Eudora’s group is “a nice, small, hometown guild.”
“The ladies are all real chilled and laid back, and it’s just a nice group of people to be with,” she said.
The event continues from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today (Saturday) and has a $5 admission fee. All proceeds will be given to charity.
