Services by a local esthetician will expand offerings at the new downtown location of JS Wellness.
The business owned by Julie Skinner recently moved to a bigger space at 715 Main St.
Skinner opened her first location at 101 W. 10th St. about two years ago. She has since seen how supportive the community can be for small businesses.
When the location on Main Street became available, Skinner decided to use the space to also expand her services.
She always thought the visibility of downtown would be good for business, but she was not considering actively moving locations. The support from Eudora has given Skinner the opportunity to connect and get to know patients in a way she couldn’t when she worked at larger practices, she said.
“I didn’t even know if this would go over well, if I could even make it,” she said.
She’s already seen more people stopping in as they’re walking down Main Street, she said. The larger, brighter space has also brought in more people.
Skinner will continue providing her usual services: hormone balancing, weight loss, nutrition coaching and lifestyle coaching, botox, filler, micro needling, sculptra, vitamin infusions, immune boosting injections and more.
Skinner is a family nurse practitioner by trade. That position did not give Skinner enough time with her patients, and she desired having closer connections.
“I like to see that I’m helping them change their lifestyle to prevent a lot of health issues down the road, and a lot of times in, you know, mainstream health care with insurance and billing that somewhat kind of dictates how you can provide health care to your patients,” she said.
Tristan Abel joined JS Wellness as an esthetician this month. Abel grew up in Eudora and is excited to start helping patients in her hometown. She’s looking forward to having a personal connection with patients.
“I never saw myself working in Eudora after I graduated from here, but it’s nice to be able to kind of have that small-town culture back. When you go to a big city, it’s not as friendly sometimes,” she said.
Abel will be available for waxing, facials, brow and lash lifts, and laser services for hair removal, dark spots and more.
She went to esthetics school and then saw clients in Kansas City. By working with Skinner, she’ll be able to expand services from what she previously did.
“I’m kind of expanding my services a little bit by doing hydrafacials, lash lifts, waxing, stuff like that. I learned all of that in school, but at my previous job, we didn’t do that. So I’m excited to be able to integrate the back end,” she said.
Her goal is to make people feel confident and comfortable in their skin, and she’s excited to share what she knows and keep learning.
Skinner isn’t sure where this new journey will take her and is excited to see how it goes.
Chamber President Meagan Cox said the Chamber is excited to see revitalization of downtown Eudora and fresh businesses to create the charming feel the city has.
“It’s exciting to watch our downtown become a vibrant gathering place for both residents and visitors, creating a stronger sense of community,” she said.
Cox said each new business adds something to downtown, and she is looking forward to continuing to grow the area so downtown can be a destination.

Skinner has plans for a ribbon cutting and open house for the community to see the space, enter drawings and learn about services. Skinner said it will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 5.
