The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is looking to identify any drivers who were driving westbound on K-10 between Lawrence and Eudora just after midnight Wednesday and had to swerve to avoid a wrong-way driver headed eastbound.
The vehicle driving the wrong way was a silver Nissan Maxima. Dispatch received the report about a driver from the US 59/Iowa Street exit on K-10 heading east to Eudora.
A Eudora officer located the vehicle and eventually stopped near the East 1900 Road ramp.
Deputies and officers witnessed the wrong-way driver passing five vehicles including two semitrailers. An off-duty Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy also assisted.
After investigation, the vehicle’s driver was found to be a 35-year-old Lawrence man. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving.
Anyone who did have to take evasive action to avoid the driver is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 785-843-0250.
