The Library Board will close on its new building at 736 Main St. on Oct. 31.
During the board meeting Tuesday, President Kenny Massey said the new building does not yet have insurance and the board is still exploring and researching possibilities. The board has reached out to Integrity Midwest Insurance and the Reilly Company as possibilities, but Massey said he’s received mixed information regarding coverage.
Massey said the DeArmonds invited library staff to walk through the former quilt store space to see if there’s anything in the building that might be useful for them. He said library Director Carol Wohlford is arranging that.
Board Secretary Tim Pringle asked if library staff had been through the library’s storage unit yet, and Massey said they hadn’t. The storage unit houses materials that do not fit in the current library’s space, but Massey said they will eventually be moved to the larger space on 736 Main St.
Pringle also complimented the high school students’ banned book posters for Banned Books Week, which took place from Oct. 5-11.
“They were really good this year,” Pringle said.
In other news, board Treasurer Amy Jankowski informed the board that it received a transfer of funds from the community foundation to its checking account. Vice President Eric Magette said this money is from the capital campaign started in 2017 for the purpose of funding a new library.
