EudoraFest’s 5K and 10K races are now nationally certified, event organizers announced Saturday.
National certification allows for online registration and accurate distance measurement, EudoraFest committee member Ben Holmes said.
President Barbara Tuttle said she hopes this will attract more runners to Eudora during the annual event set for Oct. 1.
The $30 entry fee, when paid by Sept. 1, comes with a free shirt. Proceeds from the 5K will be donated to Children’s Mercy Hospital, which received $500 from prior fundraising.
EudoraFest also raises money for Eudora High School scholarships. Two more fundraising events, a car show and a cornhole tournament, will be the first weekend of June.
The 26th annual EudoraFest with its craft show and family activities intends to draw interest to Eudora, support Main Street and donate to good causes, EudoraFest treasurer Rob Wiley said.
“There’s a lot going on that weekend,” Holmes said. “It’s not just a place to stop for gas. It has a vibrancy and people are gonna find that out.”
The committee of five started planning car shows, garden tractor pulls and cornhole tournaments in January and is already looking forward to the apple dumplings from the Methodist Church, Wiley said.
“My favorite part is just seeing people get out and reconnecting with friends and enjoying the atmosphere of the music and visiting with vendors,” Wiley said.
EudoraFest is always looking for more volunteers and donations. Both can be made by contacting Barbara Tuttle at (785) 560-1000 or the EudoraFest Facebook page.

Rob Wiley, Barbara Tuttle and Rex Burkhardt organize three fundraising events throughout the year to raise money for EudoraFest. The group organized a pancake feed Saturday.
