
About 32% of ballots for the new library election have been returned to the Douglas County Clerk as of Monday.
County Clerk Jamie Shew said about 200 more ballots were returned over the weekend, bringing the total to 1,535 ballots out of the 4,852 sent to voters.
The deadline to return ballots is noon Tuesday. Voters can drop them off in any of the three drop boxes around the county: at City Hall, at the Douglas County Courthouse or at the new elections facility at 711 W. 23rd St. in Lawrence. Shew said the drop boxes will be locked at noon.
Shew said the county’s election website will be updated to reflect the preliminary canvass results, which should be posted by late afternoon Tuesday.
The Board of Canvassers will convene at 9 a.m. March 14 at 711 W. 23rd St. in Lawrence. This final count will be open for the public to view.
