With 10 minutes left in the second half, Jayla Erpelding booted an unassisted goal from a corner kick to give Eudora the lead and ultimate win Monday over Bishop Seabury Academy.
Defense was the biggest storyline in the first half with both sides sharing back and forth runs at goal scoring opportunities, but coming up empty handed at halftime.
Bishop Seabury came up short with opportunities late in the game and could not equalize as the final score ended in Eudora’s favor, 1-0.
“I thought we played hard,” Erpelding said after the game. “Definitely you could tell that we haven’t practiced in three days, but I’m proud of the team in the win for sure.”
The win gives Eudora its third on the season, raising their record to 3-6-1 on the season.
“We really needed this win after the last couple of games, and I’m really proud of us that we got the win,” Senior Mallory Vickers said. “I think I would have liked a better win or us to play better, but what can you expect from three days off.”
Head coach Darren Erpelding said the game was big for the team to help them get rolling, although they now don’t play again until Monday.
“We get a little bit of rest, you know, kind of iron some things out, clean some things up going forward and get fit for the rest of the season,” he said. “So hopefully we can kind of put some things together that we start playing our best soccer at the end of the year.”
Eudora’s next game will be at home at 4:30 p.m. Monday against Leavenworth.
