The Eudora Times will once again need to close for the summer months.
We had hoped and planned this would be the year that we would be open throughout the entire year.
However, logistical difficulties this past month mean we won’t be able to achieve that goal just yet.
We will begin reducing operations May 4 and close by May 12.
The good news is that we will open again in mid-August since we are sitting in a better financial position this spring than in the past.
We’re proud of the work that we achieved in the last year with our large Voters Guide project, city and library election coverage, state tournaments coverage and our upcoming Title IX series examining the history of girls sports in Eudora.
We had our first print edition, increased the number of people visiting our website and social media, and launched into some new advertising opportunities.
We make a point of attending every city and school board meeting that we can to help the community know what your local officials are discussing. We attend as many sporting events as we can to take professional photos and capture memories for high school athletes and their families.
We also do as many feature stories as we can since we know that people want to read good news for a change.
We have also increased the number of KU journalism students who have had an opportunity to work in Eudora and give them valuable reporting experience that will help them throughout their entire careers and make journalism as a whole better.
We hope you have enjoyed having local news this past school year and see the value of a hometown newspaper.
The Eudora Times continues to receive national attention for the unique arrangement we have of university faculty and students providing news to a community that otherwise wouldn’t have any.
Eudora will be a centerpiece of a national conference that we’re hosting at KU this fall to invite journalism professors from across the nation to learn more about how to start their own newspapers in communities that don’t have one.
We have a lot going on for us right now as we go past our third anniversary and begin our fourth year. We’re disappointed to close for the summer.
But we most certainly will be back.
We can’t do it without you, though. Please donate to us at this link and ensure our newspaper can do even more in the future.
We’ll be around a few more weeks yet with plenty of more news to come. Then we’ll see you again in August.
