Codes Administrator Curt Baumann discusses the permits he issued in January during Wednesday night's Planning Commission meeting.
The Eudora Planning Commission approved a site plan for a new parking lot at Wednesday night’s meeting.
This asphalt parking lot will be at 1135 John L Williams Dr. in the Intech Business Park.
J. Dean Grob of Grob Engineering Services and Codes Administrator Curt Baumann shared information about the lot to the commission. The area that will be developed is approximately 2 acres.
In other news, the commission discussed a letter that Planning Commission Chair Grant Martin sent to City/County Planner Mary Miller in December. The letter shared concerns the commission has regarding the Douglas County conditional use permit for the Hamm Eudora Quarry.
Martin’s letter noted suburban residential development will likely occur within ¼ mile of the proposed quarry expansion.
“Overall, it is felt that the expansion and extension request if granted will have a negative impact on the ability of Eudora to grow southeastward into its primary growth area in the manner planned and, even if such growth were to occur, there is a risk that the quality of life in new neighborhoods could be impacted in a detrimental manner by such operations,” Martin said in the letter.
Despite this letter, the Douglas County Commission moved to expand the boundaries of the quarry and increase the timeframe in which it will operate, at its Jan. 12 meeting. In 2038, the quarry’s operations will be evaluated and commissioners will decide whether or not to extend the permit.
