The City Commission will continue discussions on the Pilla Park renovations and hear about various development plans during its meeting Monday night.
In addition to hearing a proposal for the Nottingham development, the commission will consider approving a contract with McClure Engineering Company for the design and engineering work on the Pilla Park redevelopment project. The $100,589 contract represents the first step in using a $650,000 Community Development Block Grant to redesign the park.
The city received 12 responses to its request for design and engineering firms before a community panel — made up of city staff and local representatives — recommended McClure for the job. The project will be funded through the federal grant and about $298,000 in local sales tax funds, which have been included in the city’s Capital Improvement Plan for several years.
Also on the agenda Monday is a vote on whether to advance a request from McClure Engineering Company to build three apartment buildings at the northeast corner of K-10 and Church Street.
As previously reported, these apartments near Dairy Queen would add 72 units. Doug Compton previously said he was always planning on building on the land, but with news of the Panasonic battery factory and housing shortages in the area, now seems like a good time.
The project would add new multifamily housing on land already zoned for that type of development. Each building would be three stories tall.
The city’s Planning Commission reviewed the plan earlier this month and recommended approval with a few conditions. The land is identified for high-density residential use in Eudora’s long-term growth plan.
City Manager Zack Daniel said Monday’s meeting is another step in a process that would need to include final platting and a site plan.
In addition, the commission will consider annexing 134 acres at the northwest corner of K-10 and Winchester Road. There is no formal land use application for this property at this time.
The commission will also consider a proclamation recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month, recognize two Planning Commission members and receive a presentation from the Chamber of Commerce.
Staff will also provide an update to prior discussion about the official city newspaper.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
