A new children’s clothing boutique is temporarily moving to Main Street.
Little K & Co, owned by Lawrence moms Kaylee Nye and Katlyn Gress, is settling into vacant space at 800 Main St.
Nye and Gress bought the Little K & Co business last year. It was originally called Sweet Tea and Caviar and had a storefront off Iowa Street in Lawrence. It now operates primarily online and occasionally does pop-ups around the Lawrence area.
The pop-up at 800 Main will be the biggest Nye and Gress have ever done and their first storefront as owners. Nye said she hopes the store goes over with customers.
“So this is kind of like our start to like, ‘Will it work?’” Nye said. “It’s just a good feel for what people like and what they don’t like.”
Nye and Gress are still moving items in and reorganizing the space, but they hope to open soon once the city gives its approval. Gress said she’s “so happy to see it all out” because all the clothes have previously been in tubs in Nye’s basement.
Nye said Little K & Co has over 50 brands and carries girl and boy clothes and accessories for all ages of kids.
“We try to do different price points, and then there’s like a lot of organic, you know, sustainably made organic cotton,” Nye said. “A little bit of everything in the mix.”
Clothing starts at $6 for baby bows, according to the Little K & Co website. Socks are $8 and go up to $16 for a single pair. Shirts begin at $10 and go up to $42. Knitted sweaters are $42 for toddlers and babies. Shorts start at $10 and pants start at $13. There are acid-washed shorts for $30 and Nirvana sweatpants for $61. Joggers are around $30 and corduroy pants are $38. Dresses start at $16 and go up to $88.
The store will also have crafts and hats. There are items for moms, like bath soaks, notepads and women’s clothing. Nye said she would like to have regular hours once the building gets a firewall and becomes compliant with the city fire code. She hopes to stay open until Christmas.
Nye and Gress also said they would love to hear from community members about what they want in the store.
“Let us know if there’s things that you’re wanting or looking for because we can definitely do our best to buy those things,” Nye said.
Nye and Gress only have young boys, so they said they want to hear from girl moms about what they would want.
Nye and Gress are neighbors and found out about the space from their neighbor Shane England, who has ownership in the building at 800 Main St.
“He knew that we like to do pop-ups,” Nye said. “So he offered it to us until they can find a permanent tenant. So we are excited to take advantage of that.”
Multiple attempts to reach England and Aaron Thakker for further comment were unsuccessful.
Nye also said she’d eventually like to host events at the boutique for moms and kids. One idea she suggested was a sip and shop.
Eventually, Nye and Gress hope to have a permanent Little K & Co storefront. For now, they hope this storefront will increase its visibility in the area.
“I would like for people to get to see more of it in person and then just to get our name out there,” Nye said.
