A splash pad, park shade structures, pool resurfacing, Community Center security and Great Kaw Adventure race planning are included in the new Parks and Rec master plan under consideration at Monday’s City Commission meeting.
The plan’s development has been underway for about a year, and commissioners will learn more about the final draft before potentially approving it at the meeting.
The document is 95 pages and includes priorities throughout the next decade.
This map shows priority park and trail locations.
The master plan includes plans for several new parks throughout the coming years.
The thick dashed lines show new trails considered priority, and the thin dashed line shows future new trails.
Capital improvement project plans laid out from now to 2029 also include resurfacing of the tennis/pickleball court, Community Center roof work, gym floor replacement and pool amenity improvements.
The plan also lays out ideas for new services, programming and seasonal events. Some ideas listed are Christmas decorating, holiday lights, movie nights, concerts, sports tournaments, book clubs, and arts and crafts.
There are also renderings of the improved Pilla Park, a new park near the Shadow Ridge neighborhood and maps showing improvements for existing parks.
The plan also breaks down revenues captured by different youth and adult programming.
The total cost of creating the plan was $158,000, with funding coming from the ¾-cent capital improvement project sales tax for Parks and Rec projects.
Before the regular City Commission meeting, a special work session at 5:30 p.m. will discuss budget priorities for 2026.
During the regular meeting, Eudora CPA’s application for a special event permit for the CPA Picnic June 12-14 will be considered.
The city will welcome new hires and recognize new certifications.
In other business, developers working on Shadow Ridge North are still working through the process of a reinvestment housing incentive district.
The commission will consider extending the public hearing regarding the district until July 14 as the developers continue discussions with neighboring property owners that could affect the district.
