A new spot for residents to sell goods and exchange items safely is now permanently placed near the Public Safety building.
The spot at 930 Main St. is under 24-hour surveillance by the police department and is a countermeasure to make sure people are safe when exchanging or meeting to sell items, Police Chief Wes Lovett said.
“We have been aware of crime that has occurred in the metro area with these types of exchanges, so we just wanted to get ahead of it before anything bad had happened to one of our citizens,” Lovett said.
The spot where the sign is placed was already under constant video by the department so it seemed like a good place to designate for these transactions, he said. Lovett said the department wasn’t aware of anything else like this in Eudora.
It can be used to exchange money for goods, or to sell items that weren’t necessarily sold online, like a vehicle or a dog, but needs a neutral exchange location, he said.
Some also do custody exchanges at the police department so this would allow for those to be done safely, as well.
“It’s nice that they’re aware that, you know, there is surveillance there and it’s being recorded, but it’s mainly for what the sign suggests, and that’s just for internet exchanges,” he said.
