The Senior Wheels program that provides transportation access for senior citizens is a growing success in Eudora, the Eudora Senior Foundation heard Tuesday night.
Jeff Rhodes said the Eudora Senior Wheels vehicle has been repaired by Douglas County Senior Resource Center. Rhodes said the Eudora zip code has logged more hours and miles on its vehicle for senior transportation than either Baldwin City or Lecompton. He attributed its success to the foundation’s promotional work.
“We all should take a little bit of credit for that and certainly pat ourselves on the back for the promotion of that vehicle,” Rhodes said.
In other business, Rhodes said the foundation’s new tagline would be “Growing better together.” Members discussed potential logos Tuesday after Erin Pascal prepared several designs that incorporated the new tagline and “Eudora Senior Foundation” along with versions of an abstract sunflower.
Members of the foundation did not reach a decision at Tuesday’s meeting. Pascal will adjust some of the designs for the foundation to review at a future date.
Foundation members also discussed organizational changes. Leonard said the governance committee is searching for a new president or interim president to replace him. Leonard said he hopes to have someone in the position by July.
In addition, Rhodes said he is leaving Eudora for a new job in Parkville, Missouri. Leonard said Marla Tournade had messaged him to announce that she also is stepping down from the group due to a demanding new job.
Vice Mayor Ruth Hughs said she didn’t want to see all of these people leave, but she knows they will be proud of the work this committee is doing, especially as it works to become more official and recognizable in the community with its marketing efforts.
“I think by maybe July, the first meeting, we’ll feel like we’ve arrived as a real foundation with a logo,” Hughs said.
