Five kickball teams have registered so far for Saturday's Kickball and Cornhole Tournament to fundraise in honor of Kristina Shepherd of Eudora, who is battling leukemia.
Eudora residents will compete in kickball and cornhole tournaments Saturday at Lucy Kaegi Park for a fundraising event in honor of Kristina Shepherd, of Eudora, who is battling leukemia.
Kickball team registration is now complete, but cornhole registration will begin around 10 a.m. Saturday and run through 11:30 a.m.
The event’s organizer, Tonya Purcell, said she just wanted to do something to help out a longtime friend who has always been there to help when someone needed it.
“[Kristina] is just the kind of person who helps everybody with what she can when she can,” Purcell said.
Those who want to ride the bench should show up for some of Dustin Helm’s grilling, which will be for sale. Purcell said Helm and his wife Susan are also family friends of the Shepherds and helped plan the event.
Purcell also has collected around 20 items from local businesses to raffle.
Currently, five kickball teams have registered and will be put into a double elimination bracket for Saturday’s tournament. Cornhole will also be a double elimination competition, but the two-person teams will be randomized upon registration. Cornhole will cost $10 per person and Purcell said a kickball team raises $150 for the cause.
“I just hope our community knows we appreciate every little bit that they do,” Purcell said. “I’ve always known that our community is awesome.”
