The City Commission approved an agreement Monday to partner with an engineer on the impending 10th Street sidewalk project.
Plans to improve sidewalks along 10th Street moved another step forward Monday night after the City Commission approved a partnership with an engineer.
The total cost of the project is about $1.6 million, with the Kansas Department of Transportation funding $1.1 million and the city responsible for the remaining $547,000.
The city’s Capital Improvement Projects fund will go toward financing the project’s design and engineering. City Manager Barack Matite said the project will continue over the course of the next two years, tentatively moving to the bid process of the project next spring.
“It will take a long process to get the engineering done and the bid process, as outlined by KDOT,” Matite said. “We know it just takes time, and we hope that the public will be patient as we work through this project.”
In other business, new city employees were introduced, including Assistant City Manager Kevyn Gero who began her new position this week. Commissioners also approved the revised store plan for the Casey’s General Store intended to go into the Nottingham Center. The Planning Commission previously approved changes to the store before the plan went before the City Commission, including a new roof and slight additions to the building’s size and sign.
The City Commission also extended the due diligence period for the store due to ongoing construction. This pushes the anticipated close on the store to May 31.
“I think this is an amazing upgrade,” Vice Mayor Ruth Hughs said to Casey’s representatives about the store’s new site plan. “By having a flat roof, the look of this new building is just amazingly different. I’m glad you’re bringing this particular one to Eudora.”
