Work being done inside the northern half of 728 Main St. Main Street Wine and Spirits is expanding its business into that half of the building by late August.
More drinks are coming downtown as Main Street Wine and Spirits owner Hardeep Gosal said he hopes the store’s expansion project will be complete by late August.
Gosal said the expansion will bring a beer cave, new cigar options, and more space for inventory and coolers to the store.
The plan was always to expand, said Gosal, who bought the store last year.
“We wanted to kind of get established and get a feel for the business before we kind of went over into the other side,” he said. “But we bought the other side along with it with the idea of expanding in the future.”
Gosal said the main reason for the project is to add more space to the store.
“I feel, as the town grows, there will be more requests for newer, different items,” Gosal said. “There’s always new stuff coming out weekly to the point where I’m like, ‘OK, where do I put this?’ So, that’s what I’m hoping to achieve with it is just getting the space to fill everybody’s needs.”
Gosal’s only other employee, Heather Felix, said she can’t wait for the expansion to be complete to see all the new customers the store draws.
“It’s definitely going to be more aesthetically pleasing because he’s [Gosal] putting in a bunch of different things that’s going to catch people’s attention,” Felix said.
Gosal said the store received a $4,600 grant from the city as part of its downtown rehabilitation program. This covered the cost of renovating the exterior of the building and painting.
Everything else has been paid for out-of-pocket, Gosal said.
Eudora Area Historical Society Executive Director Ben Terwilliger said rehabilitation projects are important for preserving local history and helping the local economy.
“So the city government has been very instrumental in preserving these buildings. And I like to think we’ve played a role here at the museum just by documenting the history and advising people on how it’s possible to restore these buildings,” Terwilliger said. “I’m very pleased that Hardeep is doing work on that building and appreciate his efforts to help restore one of Eudora’s most historic buildings.”
Terwilliger said the northern half of 728 Main St. was built in 1898, but the southern half, where Main Street Wine and Spirits is located now, was built around 1947. The building housed Fern/Ray’s Hardware store in the 1940s.
Gosal said the store will have a big grand opening party for the new addition where Indian food will be served along with special deals on drinks and raffle items.
Gosal said to follow the store’s Facebook page for updates.
