Library Board President Kenny Massey, left, provides an update on a survey the library will send out soon regarding the vote for a new library as board member Mike Keltner listens during Tuesday’s meeting.
A community survey asking local residents why they voted against a new library could be sent out in the coming days.
President Kenny Massey said during Tuesday’s meeting he met with a representative of the market research company ETC Institute over Zoom where he presented the board’s final revisions.
Massey said once he sends in the final version of the survey, which he plans to do today (Wednesday), the board will have a better timeline on when the survey will be sent out.
Massey said the representative had no problems with the revisions.
“Everything is in place ready for this to go out once he gets the document and goes through it, and as he described it, ‘puts it into their system,’” Massey said.
Questions in the survey include asking residents if they think the library is important, how they voted in the March 2022 bond referendum that proposed a new library, if they use the library and what library spaces they feel are most important.
In other business, the board set its revenue neutral hearing for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Vice president Eric Magette said during a special meeting July 6 residents would receive postcards in the mail about the neutral rate being exceeded.
By exceeding the revenue neutral rate, it gives the library more money for projects that have increased with inflation.
Massey said the library also qualified for state financial aid, which means the library qualifies for support from the Northeast Kansas Library System.
The library board’s next regular meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15.
