Gene’s Heartland Foods has started a short remodeling process to put in new freezers and new flooring this week.
The store’s freezer section will be empty as they tear out the old freezers and replace them with new ones. Early this week, the store is taking out all the frozen items and the refrigerator company will begin ripping the freezers out.
The current freezers are from the 1980s and are in need of replacing, Manager Lance Handley said. The store has 25 freezer doors along with bunker freezers in the center of the freezer section. All the bunkers will be removed and the store will have a total of 49 freezer doors, he said. The new units will be more energy efficient than the bunkers and old freezers were.
The new setup may free up a little space for the store, and Handley said the store would be changing up some of its offerings. There will be more ice cream, frozen pizza and entree options because that is what people want, he said.
“More stuff that makes sense for this store,” Handley said.
The renovation will be complete in 10-14 days, he said.
