The city will host an informational town hall next week, a Eudora student receives a prestigious fellowship and Eudora high schoolers participated in a math competition.
The City Commission and city staff will hold a town hall event at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the high school library.
The event will be a time for community members to receive updates on city projects and operations. If residents want to make comments or ask questions about ongoing city activity, this is to let the city know any thoughts, the press release said.
There will be no official action at the event, and there is no formal agenda.
Kat Balke, a senior at University of Kansas, has received an endorsement for the George J. Mitchell Scholarship, to provide funding for one year of study in Ireland. Balke has also been endorsed for one to three years of study at the University of Oxford in England. The scholarships are in support of the University’s Office of Fellowships.
Balke, from Eudora, is double majoring in English and Italian in hopes of earning a doctorate in English with a concentration in British medieval literature. She hopes to become an English professor and run a campus women’s center to support and advocate for abuse survivors.
She has received many awards, including the Helen Rhoda Hoopes Award for best English undergraduate essay written by a woman.
About 400 students competed in the 50th annual Math Day competition at Emporia State University on Wednesday. High school students from Eudora, along with other cities across the state, participated in the event. Nearly 500 students participated from 41 different schools

We also will accept new job announcements, birth announcements, engagement/marriage/anniversary announcements, high school and college graduation announcements, and pet news. Pet news could include announcement of a new pet or an obituary for a pet. The cost of these various announcements will be $10 each. The fee is to support personnel who must prepare this information for publication.
