A few local businesses had a moment in the Hollywood spotlight when a TV crew decided to film scenes in them for a crime documentary series.
Scenes of the Netflix series “I Am A Killer” were filmed at Twill Trade and Zeb’s over a year ago, with the episode featuring them recently airing.
Twill Trade owner Elizabeth Knispel said the show found her through a space sharing app and spent a few hours one day filming three sequences in her store and some scenery inside Zeb’s.
“I Am A Killer” is about death row inmates convicted of capital murder who give firsthand accounts of their crimes in the documentary series. The episode with scenes of Eudora businesses is called “A Mother’s Love” and is about a woman in prison for killing her husband who details her past abuse and turbulent marriage.
Zeb’s owner Kathy Weld said there was a small uptick in business, with people mentioning the episode for a few weeks after it aired.
“It was really exciting to see our little town on Netflix,” Weld said.
Knispel said it was a “fun, unique, historic way to show Eudora.”
Eudora Community Museum Executive Director Ben Terwilliger said it was the first time in a while the town has been featured. However, low budget movies like “The Painting,” from 2001 have filmed in Eudora in the past.
Weld said she is optimistic about Eudora’s future because of this spotlight.
“It is a great opportunity to open doors for other film opportunities,” she said.
