The Senior Foundation of Eudora is hosting a “Grand Ol’ Party” event where seniors and their families can enjoy time in the park this spring.
The event is scheduled for 3-7 p.m. May 21 at Lucy Kaegi Park. In case of inclement weather, the event will move indoors to the nearby recreation center.
The foundation came up with the idea as a way for senior citizens and their families to have fun while enjoying being around the foundation, as well as to get more senior citizens involved with the group.
The event is possible thanks to a fundraiser last fall at Barbwire Barbecue, with another fundraiser planned for later this year.
Coordinator Ruth Hughs said the foundation is hoping this is the beginning of an annual event.
There will be sidewalk painting and a bounce house for the kids, pizza from Gambino’s and shaved ice from Kona Ice.
Caren Rowland, a member of the foundation, said she hopes the event “makes seniors happy to have their family with them.”
The foundation has been around for four and a half years. It is still reaching out to local seniors to try to get them involved. The organization offers Friday Fun Fellowship from 1-3 p.m. every second Friday of the month, which draws between 40-50 seniors.
Belinda Rehmer is on the foundation’s board and said the group hopes to use money from fundraisers to purchase a van for Senior Wheels. This program provides Eudora seniors help getting around town.
“We are interested in reaching seniors who are at home and do not have anyone,” Rehmer said.
Hughs said the Grand Ol’ Party is a great way to bring family and friends together.
“It will be an opportunity for people to see what fun the seniors have,” she said.
