Residents can now log their burns and opt in to receive burn ban notifications through a new system from Douglas County Emergency Management.
The new form will allow residents to log the beginning and end of their approved burns online, while also logging a burn by calling the burn hotline at 785-832-5394. The open burning resolution within the county requires open burning be reported to the dispatch center except for those defined as recreation burning.
To fill out the form, homeowners need a valid address in an unincorporated area of Douglas County, as well as the following information:
-
Location of burn
-
Name, address, telephone number of the individual responsible
-
Duration and schedule of the burning
-
Description of the purposed burn, size/acreage, material, reason for burn
If you live in an incorporated city limit, contact your municipality before doing any burns.
When a burn ban is in place, the form will say closed. Here is the form link: https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/62bf4c5822e1487ba02cc5fecfe56100
Residents can also add an option to receive a notification to their phones when a burn ban is in place. The option can now be added to the same service used to send out weather alerts through the Northeast Kansas Notification System.
