The city is working on figuring out the source of some ongoing power surges in town.
Assistant City Manager Zack Daniel said the city is testing lines with infrared cameras to see if connections are loose or if high temperatures are causing the issues.
Crews have also removed several tree limbs but don’t think that could be the cause of the issues. Contracted partners are helping to identify the main problem, but there is not an answer at this time.
Daniel said two circuits are impacted, and Public Works is working on a map of the affected areas.
Unrelated to the power surges, there is a gas leak causing closure of 14th Street between Birch and Ash for about the next hour or so, Daniel said late Thursday afternoon. The gas leak is related to the fiber optic cable digging, similar to that on Monday. It is unclear if the line was unmarked or if Kwikom accidentally hit a marked line. No fire has been reported, he said.
