Residents continue to post concerns about the field of view as a result of the new fencing part of the K-10 pedestrian bridge crossing.
The city and state Department of Transportation are having conversations about any next steps.
The Kansas Department of Transportation is working with the city and its design consultant on assessing the sight distance at the Church Street bridge, spokeswoman Kate Craft said in a statement Wednesday.
The Times asked the DOT for a phone call to ask questions but was emailed the statement.
“The fencing/handrail is intended to provide some degree of safety for the pedestrians that use the new pathway, so the task is figuring out how to maintain that functionality while addressing the sight line for drivers using the ramp,” Craft said in the email.
Assistant City Manager Zack Daniel said the city is engaged in talks with KDOT on additional safety analysis. Daniel said next steps are not clear at this time as conversations are ongoing.
