The steel railing on the bridge over K-10 that has prompted numerous concerns from residents about visibility will soon be taken down.
After installation of a new protected pedestrian crossing was recently completed on the bridge, residents have been sharing concerns about seeing oncoming traffic. The Kansas Department of Transportation has been working with the city and a design consultant to assess the project and review necessary design changes.
The Eudora Times emailed KDOT on Wednesday asking what the agency’s timeline was for addressing residents’ concerns.
A contractor will remove the steel rail as soon as today (Nov. 1), conditions permitting, the Times was told late Thursday in an email from Kate Craft, a spokesperson for the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The removal of the railing will help relieve the sight distance issues, she said.
Since the bridge is owned by the state’s Department of Transportation, all future modifications or revisions will be reviewed by it before moving forward.
