Local students are being recognized for their academic achievement and an upcoming workshop will help those interested in starting a food business.
Dean’s List
Jerratt Todd Bradley of Eudora has been named to the dean’s list at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the fall semester of the 2023-24 academic year. Bradley, a senior majoring in elementary education, was named to the dean’s list for the College of Education and Human Sciences.
Food Business Event
The Douglas County Food Policy Council is hosting a Food Business Start-Up Panel Discussion and Resource Fair focused on permits and safety.
The event will take place from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds (Dreher Family 4-H Building) at 2110 Harper St. in Lawrence. This event is catered for food entrepreneurs, including farmers, mobile food vendors, and more.
Event panelists include Josh Zeck (Kansas Department of Agriculture inspector), Brian Edie (Edie Insurance), Mindy Andrasevits (Eudora city fire chief), Christopher King (prevention chief at Lawrence Fire Department) and Bryan Severns from Kansas Value Added Food Labs.

Biomedical Research Excellence
The 22nd annual Kansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence Symposium celebrated the remarkable achievements of 18 undergraduate students from 10 institutions in Kansas and Oklahoma. Led by the University of Kansas Medical Center, this collaborative network aims to prepare and inspire promising students for careers in bioscience.
Grace Schieferecke, junior in medical microbiology at Kansas State University, won an award for her presentation “Molecular Analysis of Benzimidazole Resistance in Hookworms in Kansas Dogs.” Her parents are Mark and Linda Schieferecke from Eudora.
President’s Honor Roll
Oklahoma State University in Stillwater has released its 2023 fall semester honor rolls.
Cody Loganbill of Eudora made the president’s honor roll for full-time undergraduate students who completed 12 or more hours with a grade point average of 4.0.
The Good Neighbor section will publish when there is content. We will publish event notices once for free before requiring the purchase of an ad.
We also will accept new job announcements, birth announcements, engagement/marriage/anniversary announcements, high school and college graduation announcements, and pet news. Pet news could include announcement of a new pet or an obituary for a pet. The cost of these various announcements will be $10 each. The fee is to support personnel who must prepare this information for publication.
