Eudora students were recognized for graduation and making honor rolls, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will also host a citizen’s academy.
University honors
Sawyer Schreiner was named to the University of Central Oklahoma president’s honor roll. Schreiner received a 4.0 GPA during the fall semester to receive this distinction.
Northwest Missouri State University named two Eudora students who completed their degrees in fall 2023. Kelly Hyer received a master’s degree in K-12 education leadership, and Emily Watson received a bachelor’s in English.
Citizen’s academy
Douglas County will host a citizen’s academy for seven weeks beginning April 4. Applications will continue through March 22 for residents 18 and older.
The group will meet Thursday evenings and two full Saturdays. The academy will allow students to see the duties and responsibilities of the sheriff’s office. There will be tours, an overview of the corrections and operations divisions, lessons on driving skills, car-stop techniques, field-sobriety testing, building searches, defensive tactics and use of force.
“This agency is proud of what our Citizen’s Academy has become, especially with the amount of hands-on experience we are able to give members of the community as well as the forum to have candid conversations about law enforcement, corrections and our community,” Sheriff Jay Armbrister said in a statement.
The application is available here. Questions can be directed to 785-841-0007 or contact Morgan Haney, community outreach and support advocate at 785-813-9055.
