The library board discussed updates on the new library plan and the hiring of a new children’s librarian at Tuesday’s meeting.
President Kenny Massey and Treasurer Amy Jankowski recently met with Mar Lan Construction and an architect from Studio One to discuss future expansion in the proposednew library and the formation of a building committee.
Jankowski said they determined there would be opportunities to expand a new library in the future, as long as they expand on the north and south ends of the building.
Jankowski said they decided in the meeting to not move forward with the formation of a building committee for another year.
“If we start talking about it every month between now and April, people are gonna be done hearing about it,” Jankowski said. “We’re just not even gonna really present it or bring it up unless somebody specifically asks.”
The building committee will form and begin meeting in March or April 2025. Jankowski also said the board will not discuss the budget and square footage of the proposed new library until March 2025.
The board is planning on a November 2025 election date for the bond.
Massey also met with a financial adviser from Baker Tilly and an attorney from Gilmore & Bell and said the two are on board to provide financial and legal help with the library’s bond.
In other business, Dalton Torneden, the new children’s librarian, was recently hired and began working at the library last week.
Executive Director Carol Wohlford said he has been a great addition to the team so far.
“He wants to do whatever he can for everybody,” Wohlford said. “He is just delightful.”
Torneden came to Eudora after working as the assistant director at Linwood Community Library.
In other business, Jankowski brought up that the library may need to do an audit. Wohlford asked why the library needed to do an audit and said she doesn’t think the library’s ever done one.
Jankowski said it would be a good idea to do an audit since the library is wanting a bond.
In other business, the library will be closed April 29 for an in-service day.
