The Eudora Times won 32 awards in the Kansas Press Association contest for its reporting, multimedia and advertising work in 2023.
The recognition included seven first-place awards as well as former sports editor Jack Denebeim winning third place in the statewide new journalist of the year competition.
The Times primarily competes against other professional newspapers in Kansas that have a similar circulation size, but there are also statewide competition categories. The newspaper’s staff will be recognized in June during the industry’s annual convention.
“The Times significantly grew last year, giving us greater capability to do more reporting and projects to serve the community,” Publisher Teri Finneman said. “We need continued readership and financial support so we can keep telling the meaningful stories of Eudora and showing why local news matters.”
Of particular note, The Times won two first-place awards for its new residents’ guide magazine. A judge wrote: “This section caught me by surprise. It started with the awesome picture of the child on the merry-go-round on the cover and continued with a very appealing layout throughout the section. If I were considering moving to your town, this is exactly what I would be looking for. Well done!”
