Justin Bogart will leave the district after serving in his role as high school principal for the 2023-24 school year. He will go on to be principal at Piper High School in Kansas City.
Bogart said the new opportunity is a good one for his family, but he didn’t come to it easily because of the investment that Eudors staff, students and community have put in him.
“Well, wherever you land, it’s about the relationships that you create with the people with whom you work: students, the staff, district leadership and the community. Those are relationships that I’ve been fortunate to build in the last year and I’ll carry those with me,” Bogart said.
Seniors getting to paint their parking spots this year and kids linking arms after ball games and singing the alma mater are some of his favorite moments, he said.
He’s still looking forward to events that lie ahead, like prom and graduation, he said.
He said there are no bad days at Eudora, and it’s a great place to work.
“That means a lot to me to be able to work in an environment where everyone is supportive of each other,” he said.
When Piper reached out to him, he felt it was important to at least take a look at the possibility, and it turned out to be a great one, he said.
Superintendent Stu Moeckel said Bogart has been a great principal this year, and he’s excited that he’ll be able to achieve this new goal.
He wishes him nothing but the best, and said staff would miss having his leadership. He shared the news with staff yesterday, and they seemed to take it well, Moeckel said.
Moeckel said there will be a special meeting of the board tomorrow night for executive session and then to approve Bogart’s resignation. From there, the district will post the position.
Candidates will be interviewed, then met by staff with potential hiring happening either at a special meeting between the April and May meeting or at the regular May meeting, he said.
Although the timeline is significantly shorter since the board had about a year to find Ron Abel’s replacement after hearing of his retirement, Moeckel is confident ample candidates will apply.
Moeckel said he is grateful for teacher and staff support, and the Eudora community’s support. The priority is to ensure there is a successful transition the rest of the year while maintaining the learning environment, he said.
“I thank Dr. Bogart for his service to our staff,” Moeckel said. “As always, we need to remain flexible and so we will be able to pivot and make sure that we’re able to do the due diligence and process to hire our next principal at Eudora High School.”
