Washburn University named Dalton Shrum to its president’s list for the fall 2024 semester.
The honor is reserved for students who complete at least 12 credits and achieve a 4.0 grade point average. Shrum joins more than 775 students recognized for academic excellence.
Eudora resident reelected to Federal Home Loan Bank board
Lynn Jenkins was re-elected to the board of directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka.
The bank provides credit to financial institutions in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Jenkins has served on the board since 2019.
Jenkins holds an accounting degree from Weber State University and worked as a CPA for 16 years before entering public service. She served as Kansas state treasurer and represented Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives for five terms. She is also on the board of directors for American Century Investments Mutual Funds.
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka board consists of 17 members who oversee policy decisions and ensure the organization operates responsibly.
Citizens Academy taking applications
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has opened applications for its 2025 Citizens Academy, a hands-on program offering community members an inside look at law enforcement.
The seven-week program begins April 10 and includes Thursday evening sessions and two full Saturdays, running through May 15.
Sheriff Jay Armbrister praised the academy for fostering transparency and engagement.
“It’s a unique opportunity for participants to gain hands-on experience and engage in candid conversations about law enforcement, corrections and our community,” he said.
The program covers topics like vehicle-stop techniques, defensive tactics, building searches and field sobriety testing, along with tours of the corrections and operations divisions.
