Residents will have the opportunity to learn more about possible changes coming to a Eudora quarry plan during a meeting next week.
The changes are not to the conditions within the conditional use permit, but rather a more internal change relating to phasing, Lawrence-Douglas County planner Mary Miller said.
The hours of operation, size and other items included in the permit will not be changed. The applicant, Hamm, submitted a site plan to change the area in each phase of the quarry plan.
The proposed change will allow for them to work longer in an area before having to reclaim it. This will allow the applicant to get more limestone out of the location, Miller said.
“They want to keep it open so that some of that other limestone that might be more usable later in the year or some other time, they can still use it, and it also would help them with their reclamation, being able to reclaim the larger part of the pond,” Miller said.
Although it’s a minor change, it still has to go through the site plan process, she said.
A letter was mailed to property owners within one-half mile of the proposed development.
The letter said “the proposed adjustments to the operations exhibit would comply with the 50-acre maximum mining pit restriction and the full range of other operational and reclamation requirements. The proposed change would merely allow our mining operation to be adjusted so that the Eudora Quarry can continue to offer full range of aggregate materials to the community, rather than waiting to proceed into Phase II of the mining plan.”
Hamm will host a meeting at the high school auditorium from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 10 to present residents with information about the proposed change.

The site plan is still under review, and may be different by the time it gets to the County Commission.
