Cardinals football players are excited to watch the Chiefs try for history on Sunday as the team goes for its third-straight Super Bowl title.
The Chiefs will play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and a win would make them the only team in NFL history to win the league three years in a row. Eudora football players described the impact of having such historic success in the sport so close to home.
Senior Christian Jarrett said the Chiefs’ success gives him players to look up to. He said he admires that they give their best effort on every play. He strives to implement that mindset in his own game.
“Seeing them play at the highest level consistently each year, it really makes you strive to want to be better and get to that point,” he said.
He said it is cool to watch NFL players move with speed and confidence while staying mentally focused and memorizing tons of plays and formations. Jarrett plans to watch the Super Bowl, and he’ll do so as a fan of the game.
“I really think I just try to watch it from a fan standpoint,” he said. “Because it’s harder to focus on the fundamentals and what they’re really doing, rather than just enjoying watching them play.”
Senior Silvestre Janovec said when he watches football he’ll focus on one player at a time and evaluate their individual performance to see if there are any tips he can pick up as a player.
“I see that they have some sort of leadership and their work ethic, and it just makes me want to be like them,” Janovec said, “They seem so successful and happy at what they do.”
Senior Connor Watson said he can’t go a mile without seeing something related to Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs or their potential three-peat.
“It’s just really nice to have those figures so close because you get to see how awesome it is,” he said. “And it makes you realize how close to history it is.”
Watson recalled the Cardinals football team going to a Chiefs practice camp this summer, where the team watched how the professionals give their full effort every single rep, even during the offseason.
He’ll be watching the game with an analytical perspective thanks to his years of playing.
“I’ll definitely be watching it in a more strategical way,” he said. “And trying to see what they see. And, you know, I’ll yell at the TV every once in a while.”
