Health care scams
LMH Health is reminding the community to stay safe from health care scams. Local community members have received phone calls appearing to come from the health system asking for personal and insurance information. These calls are not from LMH, according to a recent press release.
LMH Health said it communicates with patients through a variety of methods, including phone calls, text and email, but it’s good to be cautious. If you are suspicious of a call, hang up and call the clinic directly.
Saving money in cold months
Atmos Energy is reminding residents how to prepare for cold temperatures and conserve energy.
Here are some of the recommendations:
-
Never use an oven or a gas stovetop to heat your home
-
Protect natural gas meters by removing snow and ice from the natural gas meters with a broom or brush. Never kick or chip snow and ice away with a hand object.
-
Make sure external vents for dryers and other natural gas equipment are clear. Blocked vents can lead to dangerous buildup of carbon monoxide gas.
-
Minimize the risk of frozen pipes. Leave faucets running at a trickle, leave cabinet doors open and close all doors and windows to keep heat inside.
-
Save money and energy by setting the thermostat to 68 degrees during the day and 58 degrees when away from the home.
Public health award
Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health is calling for residents to nominate individuals who have gone above and beyond in promoting and advancing health throughout the county. Public health will recognize the winners during National Public Health Week from April 7 to 13.
Nominees should demonstrate:
-
Work that goes above and beyond their regular job or organizational responsibilities
-
Efforts that have resulted in measurable and positive health impacts on others in Douglas County
The nomination deadline is due at 12 p.m. March 10. Nominations can be made at this link.
The Good Neighbor section will publish when there is content. We will publish event notices once for free before requiring the purchase of an ad.
We also will accept new job announcements, birth announcements, engagement/marriage/anniversary announcements, high school and college graduation announcements, and pet news. Pet news could include announcement of a new pet or an obituary for a pet. The cost of these various announcements will be $10 each. The fee is to support personnel who must prepare this information for publication.
