Within 24 hours, the Eudora Schools Foundation raised over $69,294 to continue supporting various programs in the school district.
The fifth annual Give Day had over 460 donors. For the last two years, the goal has been $65,000 in 24 hours, and both times donors have shot past that.
Executive Director Shanda Hurla said she’s confident they will beat last year’s total with donations still coming until Friday. The total amount donated last year was about $70,000.
Some of this money will go toward expanding work-based learning in the high school to get more students the opportunity to explore internships and apprenticeships. The goal is to expand students’ exploration of different careers rather than those they are exposed to every day and get professional experience, she said.
It’ll also support the classroom grants given out each year, something that donors have made clear is important to them, Hurla said.
“The teachers and the staff are the ones that know what innovative ideas and what resources they want to bring to the classroom, so we can do that through classroom grants,” she said.
Expanding activities and clubs for middle schoolers before and after school is also something the raised funds help support.
“Our community is outstanding, and there were so many donors that gave online and just left heartfelt comments in their donations,” Hurla said.
Prizes for donors were also given out throughout the day.
