Local firefighters and police officers responded Tuesday evening to a house fire in the 1000 block of Locust.
The Eudora City Fire Department reported it was dispatched to the fire at 1022 Locust at 4:50 p.m.
The home was not occupied and no injuries were reported. The fire was under control at 5:20 p.m., the department said.
Fire crews arrived at the scene within minutes and contained the fire to the kitchen and carport areas.
“It was an unusual fire and fast-moving,” Eudora Fire Chief Mindy Ardrasevits said. “Luckily it happened during the day when neighbors are out. They immediately heard the noise and saw the smoke and called us. We could see black smoke as we were pulling out of the station.”
Neighboring homes suffered no damage from the blaze. One fire exposure to the south side of the house came close to spreading to the next property but was halted when fire crews arrived, Ardrasevits said.
The fire remains under investigation.
This is a developing story.
