The Eudora Times won seven awards in the Kansas Press Association newspaper contest, its best showing yet since launching three years ago.
The Times competes against other professional newspapers that are similar in size across the state.
Cami Koons won first place in senior citizen reporting for her story about Bertha Nichols, “Longtime resident leaving Eudora says it will always be her home.”
Multimedia marketing strategist Bella Koscal and publisher Teri Finneman won first place for best online promotion for their video, “Community members and our reporters share why local news matters.”
Finneman won second place in column writing for “Where is the sunshine in Kansas?” about the lack of government transparency in the state and dismal status of open meeting and open record laws.
Chris Fortune won second place for his coverage of the girls cross country team winning state, “CHAMPIONS: Girls’ cross country captures first title.”
The Eudora Times sports staff won third place for its fall sports souvenir section, the first time The Eudora Times had a printed edition.
William Crow won third place in senior citizen reporting for his story on the Hofers, “Beekeeping couple creates buzz with family tradition.”
Fortune won third place in religion reporting for how local churches adapted during the pandemic, “Eudora church leaders share thoughts for the new year, reflect on 2020.”
In the past three years, The Eudora Times has won 17 awards in the state contest.
“I am so proud of our reporting team,” Finneman said. “Our reporters juggle school and part-time jobs and working for The Times and are still producing some of the best journalism in the state.”

The Eudora Times operates during the school year and is staffed by KU Journalism School faculty and students. The newsroom will close May 12 and open again in mid-August.
