Text messages claiming to be from the Kansas Department of Transportation and DMV are falsely claiming to give final notice on unpaid traffic tickets.

The texts claim that enforcement will begin soon, but the state is reminding people that the Department of Transportation does not collect money for traffic tickets or tolls and will never request or collect payment through text. Any messages claiming to do so are not legitimate.

Residents also need to avoid clicking or opening any links within the scam texts. It can lead to exposure of personal and financial information to scammers. Personal or financial details via text or unknown links should also never be shared.

Report any scam messages to the Federal Trade Commission at this link, https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/ or the Internet Crime Complaint Center at https://www.ic3.gov/. 

Messages should be deleted and reported as junk. If residents have provided payment to a fraudulent website, contact the bank or credit card immediately.
