Students in the Eudora Middle School Press Club worked throughout the year with Eudora Times staffers to grow their skills as student journalists.
Club members learned about what makes stories newsworthy, as well as about interviewing, writing and photography. For their last meeting of the year, students wrote the following profiles.
Teagyn Jayne

Teagyn Jayne, a sixth grader, wants to be a detective for the Los Angeles Police Department. She is preparing by participating in disease detective and crime busters in Science Olympiad. Science Olympiad is a club where they do competitions most weekends about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). She wants to be a detective because she is interested in murder. She likes to watch multiple shows with detectives like “High Potential,” “The Rookie” and “FBI.”

Dax Von Holten, a sixth grader, wants to be an actuary when he is older. He wants to be an actuary because he likes math and is very good with numbers. He is preparing by doing metric mastery in the Science Olympiad. Science Olympiad is a club where students do competitions on weekends and is based on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). An actuary is a professional with advanced mathematics skills who deals with the measurement and management of risk and uncertainty. Actuaries help people with insurance and what would be best financially for them. They also make a good salary of almost $200,000, according to Von Holten. You would think somebody who is 12 years old and a sixth grader wouldn’t want to be an actuary. Zello, a career-choosing website, inspired Dax to pick actuary as a career based on his interests.

Fiona Rougwitz goes to Eudora Middle School. She loves to write and draw. Fiona wants to be a writer when she grows up. She wants to be a copywriter. A copywriter is a person who writes the text of advertisements or publicity material. She likes writing because she can express her feelings with complex words in multiple ways.

Addison Hellwig is a sixth grader at Eudora Middle School. She loves to hunt. She enjoys hunting because being out in the wild really allows you to notice nature in great detail. She hunts with her dad. She enjoys cooking the animals with her grandfather. Her favorite foods to make are deer and hamburgers. Addison also enjoys drawing. She really likes drawing people and wooden figures. She started drawing at the beginning of 2025.
