Stu Moeckel has been chosen as the next superintendent in Eudora.
The School Board announced the decision during a special meeting Tuesday.
Moeckel currently serves as superintendent and principal for seventh through 12th grades at Madison Virgil Schools. He was the third candidate to visit Eudora last week.
Moeckel said Tuesday he’s humbled and honored to be selected as the next superintendent. He said he’s excited to serve the community.
“I think I’m looking forward to meeting the community members and staff and faculty of the district,” Moeckel said, “and getting to know the culture and seeing all the great things Eudora has to offer its students and families.”
Moeckel submitted his resignation from his current position Monday night during a special meeting with Madison’s school board, according to the Emporia Gazette.
In a previous interview with The Times, Moeckel said he thought he was the best fit for the job because of his passion for education.
“I love working with communities and community groups, and I love supporting and working with our teachers, and obviously, being around students and helping them succeed,” Moeckel said.
Eudora School Board President Mark Chrislip said Moeckel particularly stood out because of his leadership development skills and his chemistry with school staff.
“I think he’s going to be a really good fit,” Chrislip said.
School Board member Becky Plate said community feedback was taken extensively into consideration through the process.
“We had three really great candidates,” she said. “A lot of preparation went into taking feedback from the community and the staff about the characteristics we were looking for.”
Moeckel’s contract is set to begin July 1.
