Brian Jordan and Marcia Weseman, both members of the Kansas Association of School Boards, offer guidance to the Eudora School Board over how to proceed with the upcoming superintendent search.
The School District could know its next superintendent by early May.
At a School Board meeting Tuesday night, members of the Kansas Association of School Boards recommended a plan to move forward with hiring a new superintendent, following the resignation of current Superintendent Steve Splichal.
Splichal is moving to Wyoming for another job.
The district announced Wednesday morning it would send a survey to families to submit input on the desired characteristics for a new superintendent. That survey will close April 5. People can submit their input through https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EudoraSupt.
The results of the survey will be shared with the School Board and help guide the questions the board will ask applicants. Those results will also be made public.
After the survey closes, focus group meetings will take place April 6. Five or six groups with 12 to 15 participants will represent students, staff, parents and the community.
Superintendent applications will be due April 16. Candidates will begin to be screened April 20. The names of those who apply for the job will not be made public.
“Confidentiality is a big thing with us,” said Brian Johnson, deputy director of the Kansas Association of School Boards, to the school board. “Really the only time it becomes the public of who is going to move forward in your process is when you’re announcing who is getting the interviews.”
Interviews are expected to take place between April 22 and May 3. They will not be made public.
Individuals can apply through the Kansas Association of School Boards: https://kasb.myrevelus.com/client/search/54.The posting notes the salary will be “based on qualifications.”
The board anticipates hiring someone by May 4.
Whoever receives the job will start on contract July 1.
