The future Panasonic plant near Eudora recently signed an agreement to supply its batteries to an international manufacturer.
According to a news release, lithium-ion battery cells will be supplied to Hexagon Purus Systems USA once the factory is producing. The factory is set to be operational March 2025.
Hexagon Purus manufactures zero emission mobility and infrastructure solutions, and production for its battery supply will begin early 2026. Ahead of production, the company will pay Panasonic about $43 million, subject to certain terms.
“We are thrilled to announce this landmark agreement with Panasonic, which further solidifies our leading battery system and vehicle integration offering in North America,” Todd Sloan, executive vice president of Hexagon Purus, said in a statement. “The agreement with Panasonic is a strong validation of our technology and will provide us a solid competitive platform to deliver quality solutions to our customers.”
Construction of the battery plant has been ongoing since November. The $4 billion plant is expected to bring 4,000 jobs to the area.
